چکیده

Global games and Poisson games have been proposed to address equilibrium indeterminacy in Common Knowledge Coordination games, where fundamentals are commonly known by all players. Global games assume that agents face idiosyncratic uncertainty about economic fundamentals, whereas Poisson games model the number of actual players as a Poisson random variable to capture population uncertainty in large games. The present study investigates in a controlled setup, using as controls Common Knowledge Coordination games, whether idiosyncratic uncertainty about economic fundamentals or uncertainty about the number of actual players may influence subjects’ behavior. Our findings suggest that uncertainty about the number of actual players has a more significant impact on subjects’ behavior than idiosyncratic uncertainty about economic fundamentals. Furthermore, subjects’ behavior under Poisson population-size uncertainty is consistent with the theoretical prediction of Poisson Coordination games. JEL: C72, C92, D71, D82

Robust Opponent Modeling in Real-Time Strategy Games using Bayesian Networks

Opponent modeling is a key challenge in Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games as the environment is adversarial in these games, and the player cannot predict the future actions of her opponent. Additionally, the environment is partially observable due to the fog of war. In this paper, we propose an opponent model which is robust to the observation noise existing due to the fog of war. In order to cope...

Equilibrium Selection through Incomplete Information in Coordination Games: An Experimental Study

We experiment on a coordination game with uncertainty about payoffs. This game is closely related to models used in macroeconomic and financial applications to solve equilibrium indeterminacy. Subjects receive noisy signals about the true payoffs. The unique equilibrium is reached by iterative deletion of strictly dominated strategies. Over time actual behavior converges to the equilibrium. The ...

Government and Central Bank Interaction under Uncertainty: A Differential Games Approach

Abstract Today, debt stabilization in an uncertain environment is an important issue. In particular, the question how fiscal and monetary authorities should deal with this uncertainty is of much importance. Especially for some developing countries such as Iran, in which on average 60 percent of government revenues comes from oil, and consequently uncertainty about oil prices has a large effec...

An Experimental Study of Incentive Reversal in Sequential and Simultaneous Games

I t is commonly held that increasing monetary rewards enhance work effort. This study, however, argues that this will not ineludibly occur in team activities. Incentive Reversal may occur in sequential team productions featuring positive external impacts on agents. This seemingly paradoxical event is explained through two experiments in this article. The first experiment involves a sample ...
